Lightweight Robotic Arm for a Humanoid System


The client needed a lightweight arm to fit to their humanoid system. With a compressed schedule and internal personel busy on other projects, the client needed a design that was fit for purpose and could be picked up internally as resources became available.

The client came to us knowing what they wanted but under tight schedule constraints. We completed our work quickly, moving from concept ideation to a detailed CAD model in just 5 weeks.

We created kinematics concepts and established detailed requirements quickly. We translated verbal descriptions of the kind of tasks the arm would need to perform, into detailed force+motion trajectories that we need for design. In collaboration with the client, we selected off-the-shelf and custom components.

At the end of the project we handed the design calculations and solid models over to the clients internal team.
