The IIT Walkman motors were to be operated at very high temperatures. There was a need for a very efficient passive heatsink.
Traveler Hauptman researched optimum heatsink geometries. He then designed a heatsink for the SLM process with additional post processing for optimum thermal contact. After they were manufactured he tested the performance of the resulting heatsink.
The performance of the heatsink was very good, however the manufacturing cost was prohibitive.
